WoW Forever Professions and Gold Guide

Choose your WoW Forever professions with what changed from Classic: over 600 new recipes, Camping, Merchant's Favor, gold basics and a pair for every class, with beta details marked as such.

By the Everything WoW team. Published 20 October 2026. Updated 20 October 2026.

Written from the beta, and not income guarantees. Forever launches on 4 November 2026. Our facts come from Blizzard's announcements and the beta, except where we name player reports or Classic background, and anything seen only in beta may change at launch. The gold figures are worked examples of a method, not a promise of what any profession will earn.

How Professions Change in Forever

Forever keeps the familiar professions but changes what they make and how they fit into the game.

  • More than 600 new recipes across professions and skill levels (confirmed).
  • Six crafting professions. Legacy counts six primary professions that are not gathering, which matches Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. No new primary profession has been announced.
  • Camping turns professions into campsite buffs and tools, below.
  • New trade factions and a crafting currency, Merchant's Favor, below.
  • Dungeon drops. Some Blacksmithing and Leatherworking recipes drop at random in dungeons (seen in beta), and Blueprint recipes for camp objects drop from specific dungeon bosses (confirmed).
  • Engineering bombs. New SAF-T and EZ-Thro bombs can be used while shapeshifted (confirmed).
  • Comprehension is a new minor tradeskill for Mages alone, for reading scrolls that creatures drop (confirmed).

The beta also changed gathering and selling:

  • Starter areas have fewer poor copper veins.
  • A corpse can be skinned only once.
  • Tauren Cultivation gathers herbs at a player level of the herb's level divided by 5.
  • Crafted items sell to vendors for less, and wands crafted by Enchanters now sell for a few copper or silver.

Camping

The Cooking Fire becomes a Basic Campfire. A campsite gives resting, vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one hour buffs, and you must sit to receive the rested buffs (confirmed). Professions supply the objects that make a camp useful.

  • A Basic Campfire holds 3 crafted objects, one per player, on a shared one hour cooldown.
  • Each profession has 3 camp objects at different skill levels, and each gives that profession's buff.
  • The first objects come at profession skill 20, from camp NPCs or trainers. Advanced objects come from Blueprint recipes that drop from dungeon bosses.
  • Camp buffs do not stack with the matching class buffs.

Some professions place their own camp items. Alchemists can place an Alchemy Lab. Leatherworkers place a Tanning Rack, which advanced Leatherworking recipes require. Cooks learn upgraded campfires that hold 5 or 10 objects, so a Cook makes a group's camp bigger. The Legacy perk Field Guide shortens the camp cooldown.

Merchant's Favor and Waylaid Crates

Two new trade factions give professions a reputation to work toward: the Azeroth Commerce Authority for the Alliance and Durotar Supply and Logistics for the Horde (confirmed). Seen in beta:

  • Their currency is Merchant's Favor, earned from Waylaid Crates, supply shipments such as "Apprentice Curiosities".
  • Favor buys recipes and crafted gear patterns, an Exalted tabard, and a profession certification title at skill 300 for 1,000 Favor.

Exact Favor rates and recipe lists were not published, so treat any figure you see before launch with care.

Legacy Profession Perks

Legacy, Forever's account wide progression, has a Professions tree (confirmed). Its perks are Working Overtime, Bountiful Harvest, Bartering, Performance, Master Chef, Luremaster and Dedicated Study. Bartering discounts vendor purchases only, not training or repairs (seen in beta). Dedicated Study gives a daily skill boost, or free Elemental Essences at skill 300.

Professions also earn Legacy Points: the Tradeskills challenges are worth 18 points, 3 for each of the six crafting professions, and raising a crafting profession to 150 unlocks Legacy if nothing else has. See the leveling guide for the rest of the system.

Specializations and Cooldowns

No source yet confirms Forever's profession specializations, such as Weaponsmith, Armorsmith, Dragonscale, Elemental, Tribal, Gnomish, Goblin or Transmute, or its crafting cooldowns. Do not plan a business around them until launch.

As Classic background only, three cooldowns drove profit there:

Classic CooldownPer CharacterAverage Per Week
Arcanite transmute2 days3.5
Mooncloth4 days1.75
Refined Deeprock Salt3 days2.33

If Forever keeps any of them, the payback math below still applies. Capacity is not profit: each cooldown needs the skill, the recipe, the materials, any tools, and you to use it on time.

Gold Basics

Forever launches into fresh economies, and each ruleset is its own economy, so no one knows launch prices yet. The method still holds.

  1. Protect your leveling budget. Pay for useful skills, travel, repairs and real gear upgrades before an expensive profession grind, and keep gold aside for riding at 40, whose cost is unknown.
  2. Earn with the character you play. Gather along your quest route or keep useful loot. You do not need a separate farming character before you earn gold.
  3. Build one business at a time. Buy recipes for your own use or for demand you have already seen, and test small batches before you commit materials.

Measure Net Profit

Net profit = sale proceeds after fees, minus ingredients, minus other costs.

Value the materials you gathered at the price they would sell for. Other costs include failed listings, travel, deaths, time spent finding a buyer and training fees.

A worked example, not a promise. A 300 gold setup that nets 10 gold per two day cooldown makes about 35 gold a week (3.5 uses times 10 gold), so it pays for itself in about 8.6 weeks (300 divided by 35). Run the same sum with your own prices once launch prices settle.

The Auction House and Selling

  • The Auction House shows suffix stats, such as "of the Monkey", and a column for the level needed to equip an item (seen in beta). A cross faction Auction House was reported by players on the beta but not confirmed.
  • Addons: the event that Classic Auction House scanning addons rely on is blocked on the beta client, so those addons may not work.
  • Vendor with care. An item that binds when equipped and holds an appearance you have not collected becomes soulbound when you sell it to a vendor (seen in beta).
  • Transmog is optional, poor and common items grant their appearance when looted, and level limits on appearances lift at 60.

Keep Your Bank Simple

  • Set up near the bank, mailbox and Auction House. Buy enough bag space and keep your combat and quest supplies on the character you play.
  • Keep a short record of each item, quantity, ingredient value, fees, sale proceeds and net profit.
  • Before each session, collect sales and check cooldowns. After it, mail tradeable stock to your bank and list small batches. Each week, compare crafting returns with your best farm.

A bank character needs no expensive profession setup. A bug where mail ignored surnames was fixed in beta, but mail delays and cross faction mail are not known, so do not rely on instant transfers yet.

Professions by Class

These pairs are starting plans, not a ranking of what earns the most. Two crafting professions need funding, and you can always buy tradeable crafts from other players. Each class guide covers specs, roles and leveling.

Warrior

Suggested: Mining with Blacksmithing or Engineering. Mining pays for itself along any quest route. Blacksmithing's Sharpening Wheel gives an attack power camp buff, and Engineering was the Classic choice for tanking tools, with new bombs in Forever. Battle Shout is a raid wide buff in Forever (seen in beta), and camp buffs do not stack with matching class buffs, so check which buffs your group already brings. Warrior guide.

Paladin

Suggested: Alchemy and Herbalism. Consumables serve every Paladin role, healing, tanking or melee, and Alchemists can place an Alchemy Lab at camp. Tradeable potions and elixirs sell to other players too. Paladin guide.

Hunter

Suggested: Mining and Skinning. Hunters quest through beast rich areas, and both gathering professions sell their materials or supply a crafter. Each corpse can now be skinned only once, so in a group only one player gets each skin. Dwarf Hunters' Find Treasure runs alongside other tracking. Hunter guide.

Rogue

Suggested: Engineering and Mining. In Classic this pair gave combat tools and metal to sell, and Forever adds new Engineering bombs. Rogue poisons now stack with weapon stones and oils, so stones are worth carrying; in Classic, Blacksmiths made them, which makes Blacksmithing and Mining a fair alternative. Rogue guide.

Priest

Suggested: Tailoring and Herbalism. Both professions supply caster camp buffs: the Tailor's Faction Banner gives Spirit and the Herbalist's Incense Candle gives Intellect. Tailoring also covers cloth gear and bags while you level. Priest guide.

Shaman

Suggested: Leatherworking and Skinning. Leatherworkers place a Tanning Rack, which advanced Leatherworking recipes need, and Skinning feeds it. Whether the Tribal specialization exists in Forever is not known. Shaman weapon imbues now stack with stones and oils, so they work with whatever your crafting friends make. Shaman guide.

Mage

Suggested: Tailoring and Herbalism, plus Comprehension. Tailoring covers cloth gear and bags, and Herbalism gathers along the route with an Intellect camp buff. Comprehension is a Mage only minor tradeskill for reading scrolls that creatures drop. AoE farming was deliberately weakened in Forever, so do not plan gold around Classic Mage farms. Mage guide.

Warlock

Suggested: Tailoring and Enchanting. Tailoring makes cloth gear and Enchanting turns unwanted gear into materials. Firestone and Spellstone are now weapon imbues that stack with oils. Wands crafted by Enchanters sell to vendors for very little in Forever (seen in beta), so sell crafts to players instead. Warlock guide.

Druid

Suggested: Alchemy and Herbalism, or Engineering. Druids can now use potions and almost every consumable in form (seen in beta), so Alchemy suits every Druid role. Engineering's new SAF-T and EZ-Thro bombs work while shapeshifted. Tauren Druids gather herbs with Cultivation. Druid guide.

What We Do Not Know Yet

  • Profession specializations and crafting cooldowns.
  • Gold prices at launch on each ruleset, and the cost of riding.
  • Merchant's Favor rates and the full recipe lists.
  • Mail delays, cross faction mail and the Auction House's scope.
  • Whether Auction House addons work at launch.

Forever is new, and this guide is updated as launch details are confirmed.
