Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible

Raid GuideRetail

Boss abilities and loot tables from Blizzard's own journal, boss by boss.

Millennia ago, Neltharion established Aberrus, a secret laboratory where he conducted world altering experiments. Recently rediscovered, Aberrus is now under attack from all sides as forces seeking to claim the Earth-Warder's legacy search for any power that remains. The champions of Azeroth must venture into the shadows and ensure Neltharion's dark power doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

Written notes for this instance are a later milestone. Everything on this page comes from Blizzard's journal data.

Bosses

1. Kazzara, the Hellforged

Although Neltharion would not use them himself until much later, he experimented with elementium plating in the early days of Aberrus. The end result of elementium and shadowflame was Kazzara, who was deemed far too unstable for release. Driven mad by the excruciating pain of her elementium plates, she now serves as the guardian of the Shadowed Crucible.

Abilities

  • Overview

As combat unfolds, Kazzara tears open [Dread Rifts] from which [Rays of Anguish] will form to hunt players. At 80%, 60%, and 40% health remaining, plates of Kazzara's menacing armor are shattered off during [Hellsteel Carnage], intensifying her [Infernal Heart].

2. The Amalgamation Chamber

The Eternal Blaze burns with the heat of a thousand suns, while the Essence of Shadow blooms with darkness incarnate. Although exceptionally powerful on their own, when combined they surge with the unchecked might of shadowflame, creating a whirlwind of ultimate destruction.

Abilities

  • Overview

The Eternal Blaze and The Essense of Shadow pulse with energy, applying [Blazing Heat] and [Corrupting Shadow] to nearby players. When either elemental reaches 50% health remaining, the two elementals combine to create The Shadowflame Amalgamation.

Loot

3. The Forgotten Experiments

The development of the dracthyr produced many iterations, some more successful than others. Early versions of the experiment proved far too volatile to destroy. Kept dormant for thousands of years, these creations have now awakened, and seek to test their prowess against the champions of Azeroth.

Abilities

  • Overview

The forgotten experiments within Neltharion's laboratory each represent a dark stage in the development of the dracthyr. Neldris enters the fray first and assaults the laboratory's intruders with [Rending Charge].

  • Zealous Creations

Thadrion and Rionthus each break out of their containment vats to join the fray as their predecessor reaches 50% remaining health.

4. Assault of the Zaqali

Led by Warlord Kagni, the Zaqali warband has launched an all-out assault against the Shadowed Crucible in search of their missing Elder, Rashok. Brutal and ruthless, Kagni is willing to employ any tactic to succeed.

Abilities

  • Overview

As the battle begins, Warlord Kagni calls upon his Zaqali warband to assault the two protruding battlements. Warlord Kagni periodically sends himself onto the opposing battlement with [Devastating Leap] and causes [Cave Rubble] to fall with [Heavy Cudgel]. Upon reaching 25% remaining health, Warlord Kagni stages a final desparate assault on the Elder's Door with [Catastrophic Slams].

5. Rashok, the Elder

Imprisoned within Aberrus for a millennia, the Zaqali elder Rashok has been perpetually drained of the raging flame within him to power Neltharion's twisted laboratory. Existing on the edge of death for so long has driven the elder mad. Should he break free, his vengeance will scour the Shadowed Crucible's halls.

Abilities

  • Overview

Rashok gradually gains energy over time while outside the Elder's Conduit. At 100 energy, Rashok gains [Ancient Fury] and begins to pulse deadly Shadowflame damage. Rashok's powerful [Searing Slam] creates a [Lava Vortex] which pours forth [Lava Wave] across the chamber.

6. The Vigilant Steward, Zskarn

Long ago, Zskarn was tasked with testing the mettle of Neltharion's experiments. Only the most powerful would pass muster and keep their lives. The latest visitors to the Shadowed Crucible have attracted his unwavering attention--but his approval will be much harder to earn.

Abilities

  • Section 1

A master at manipulating the battlefield, Zskarn utilizes several deadly traps to test the capabilities of players. Zskarn creates Dragonfire Golems to aid him by activating nearby [Dragonfire Traps] to burn players in the vicinity. Zskarn passively generates energy, and upon reaching 100 energy unleashes waves of [Tactical Destruction] from nearby Dragon Statues to decimate players.

Abilities

  • Overview

Magmorax launches [Molten Spittle] at players' locations that form [Magma Puddles] on impact. While Magmorax stands within a puddle, he gains [Blazing Tantrum]. Over the course of the fight, Magmorax gains molten energy. Upon reaching 100 energy, Magmorax unleashes [Catastrophic Eruption], destroying all in his domain.

8. Echo of Neltharion

Tucked away in the depths of the Shadowed Crucible, Neltharion's sanctum was a place of refuge and research for the Earth-Warder. Some say that echoes of his powerful presence still linger here, contemplating the future of the black dragonflight and how to obtain the power to ensure its success.

Abilities

  • Overview

The Echo of Neltharion periodically raises walls of [Twisted Earth] throughout the chamber. As the battle begins, Neltharion causes [Echoing Fissures] to erupt in the newly confined space. Upon reaching 60% remaining health, Neltharion [Surrenders to Corruption], summoning Voices From Beyond throughout the chamber.
